- Cryogen-free cryostat for optical, X-ray and Mossbauer studies

The CryoFree104 is a cryogen-free cryostat for optical, X-ray and Mossbauer studies in the temperature region 4.2 – 273 K. The low temperature in the sample room is achieved by the use of the cryocooler with heat load 0.5 W at 4.2 K. The primary and secondary cold heads of cryocooler cool down the sample room and copper shield of the cryostat, respectively. Excellent thermal contact between the cold head and the sample room body ensures its effective cooling. The samples attached to the sample holder are top loading into vertical sample room, which is filled by helium gas to secure good heat exchange between its body and the sample. The vacuum isolation of the cold heads and cryostat interior prevents their heating by external heat flow. Vibration-free supports used for the cryostat reduce the vibrations induced by cryocooler, as well as special design of the sample holder reduces the sample vibrations. The cryostat is supplied by windows compatible with appropriate spectral regions desired for optical, X-ray and Mossbauer measurements.
The sample temperature is regulated by tSTAT310xc temperature controller that stabilizes the temperature with accuracy 0.1 K. The Cu/Cu:Fe thermocouple is used as a temperature sensor. The design of the CryoFree104 cryostat allows long time continuous operation (10000 hours between services) and rapid change of sample during the cryocooler operation. The CryoFree104 equipped by cryocooler with higher heat load (1 W at 4.2 K) makes possible temperatures less than 4.2 K.
